'I wasn't ready to venture into politics because of insult' - Dr Mahamoud Bawumia.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamoud Bawumia has said he wasn't ready to enter into politics because of the insults from the public sphere.

He made his past intention known when he was speaking live on Wontumi 101.3 FM as a part of his tour in the Ashanti region.

Dr Bawumia said, "my father asked me if I will be going into politics but I answered no because I was afraid of being insulted. My father then said if intelligent people like myself don't go into politics and allow the less intelligent to rule and make unreliable policies then we shouldn't complain".

The vice president reiterated that the words of his father got to him and made him reconsider his initial decision on politics.

He gave an account that he decided to quit his lecturing job in the USA to come back home to Ghana and help his country with his economical knowledge in the year 2000.

He continued by saying that he joined the bank of Ghana and worked there until one fateful day that he received a call that the then NPP candidate, Nana Addo wanted to meet up with him.

"When i received the call from Nana Addo, i taught he needed an economical document, so as I made my way to meet him, i carried along with all my economic files thinking to deliver such to him", Veep.

Dr Bawumia made it known that he did not have politics in mind as at when he was meeting up with Nana Addo.

"My meeting with Nana Addo gave me a shock when he said he wanted me to be his running mate ahead of 2008 elections. He told me he will be needing feedback the next day and i said i will give it a thought", Bawumia.

Mahamoud Bawumia revealed that his wife was not all that happy about the request from Nana Addo to his husband. The wife questioned him that is she marrying a banker or a politician?

The vice president said his decision to be the running mate of Nana Addo was the will of God and his father's caution words.

Dr Bawumia became a running mate from 2008 until they won power from the NDC in 2016 general elections.
