Meat Pie is a delicacy for many. Once, you get a meat pie and a Fan Yogurt, in any hot afternoon, you are good to go. Today, a normal good tasting meat pie on the streets of Accra and amongst well renowned brands like Adinkra meat pie, cost just ¢3 only.
This is why, Allotey Jacob is going viral since late this afternoon after revelations from a party organizer indicates that, Allotey Jacob, now a dismissed member of the NDC party, had budgeted for as much as ¢1.5billion not in 202, but in 2016, with each unit cost, being as much as ¢5. No expert is needed, not even a renowned auditor like Domelevo to tell Ghanaians that, someone had intentionally over budgeted.
This week has been a hard one for him indeed, as earlier in the week, the former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs had been officially fired from the party, as a press release signed by General Secretary Johnson Aseidu Nketia, the party said that its disciplinary committee found Mr. Jacobs guilty of allegations of misconduct and anti party conduct brought against him.
“The Committee’s report which is herein attached for your attention, found you guilty of the said allegations of misconduct, anti-party conduct and recommended among other things your immediate expulsion from the party. The Functional Executive Committee acting in compliance of article 48(1) of the NDC Constitution has unanimously adopted the report and accepts fully its recommendation for your immediate expulsion from the party,” the statement read.
However, according to Bernard Allotey Jacobs, he has rather stated that he resigned from the NDC before the party expelled him, as according to Mr. Allotey Jacobs, he voluntarily resigned from the party even before been served with an official notice.
However, fast forward to today, the current Central Regional Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Mr. Eric Donaldson in an interview today with Vim Lady, in this viral video Meat pie - Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo (facebook.com) had accused the former regional chairman, Bernard Allotey Jacobs of presenting a budget for a party activity which contained a component of GH¢1.5 billion old cedis allocation for the purchase of meat pie.
Bernard Allotey Jacobs in a most recent interview had accused the party’s leadership of sidelining him in 2016 when he helped organized the party’s national campaign launch, and in his words, "had filled an entire stadium with thousands of people for Mahama." Reacting to Allotey’s claims, Eric Donaldson in an interview with Okay FM, accused Allotey Jacobs of hoarding campaign resources as well as deliberately bloating the budget for the said event at the Cape Coast Stadium. According to Donaldson, the then Regional Chairman presented a budget which had a component of thirty thousand pieces of meat pie with the overpriced amount of each piece pegged at Ghc5, in 2016.
“I heard him on radio claiming that he was sidelined at the campaign launch in Cape Coast. Ask him what budget he brought from Cape Coast to Accra. In that budget how many pieces of meat pie did he budget for? Chairman Allotey made provision for the purchase of 30,000 pieces of meat pie at a cost of Ghc5, meat pie budget alone was Ghc1.5 billion old cedis, I don’t see any pastries company in this country that has the capacity to produce 30,000 pieces of meat pie in a day to feed people who come for a programme,” he said.
The short video didn't indicate his immediate reaction to this, but we can predict that, he will surely be defensive. His woes started way back in the heat to the just ended elections when his utterances were seen by the NDC, as not advancing its cause and called for his suspension from the renowned Peace FM morning breakfast show. As eventually, then only suspended Bernard Allotey Jacobs, gave a last goodbye kiss to Peace FM Morning Show programme in order for peace to prevail.
According to Allotey then, upon a deep reflection he’s taking back seat in this whole brouhaha to allow his party, NDC to take its place on Peace FM, as the NDC has been boycotting Peace FM for the past weeks over the continuous appearance of Allotey Jacobs and the party claims that its former Central regional Chairman is taking the slot meant for the party. But Allotey’s appearance on the show was however defended by the show host, Kwami Sefa Kayi, who was of the opinion that, he was going to be part of the show and that nobody can dictate who to appear on the show, but Allotey Jacobs asserted that, his decision was taken after he strangely had a visitation from the late President John Evans Atta Mills, compelling to stay away till 2021 after the election.
In 2021,, his praises for the NPP has been increasing, whiles he is a big critic of the NDC. For instance, earlier this year, Bernard Allotey Jacobs described the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the ‘devils den’ following his expulsion from the party. ”That expulsion letter is pointless and baseless. It has no purpose. The NDC is full of confusion. I don’t believe in personality worship. A lot more people will be coming out like me. If you’re in that party, you are in the devil’s den,” he told Starr News. He had also accused the party leadership of covering up their inefficiencies in the 2020 polls by punishing outspoken members. “I don’t know whether they are brainless or not when somebody has already come out to say I no longer belong to that party why do you issue that statement. I don’t owe them one pesewa and they can report to the police that they have their things with me. Their statement is visionless and brainless”.
With these harsh words on the party, many loyal NDC members and leaders believe has been a blessing to him in the past, one can only understand that, the NDC has also released these attacks on him, in the same measure he has been doing of late to the party and one can only expect more in the coming days.
