A leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Boakye Agyarko has revealed that things are gradually getting out of hand in the country. He indicates that the anger that is building up among the youth must not be responded with violence like it happened at Ejura in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The tension among the youth in Ghana is gradually taking a different stage. It all started with a few persons who developed a hashtag known as fix the country. Since then, most persons have joined the crusade with pressure on government to fix the numerous challenges. A young man known as Twene Jonas has also been everywhere on social media for the same crusade. Nobody knows what will happen next, but some youth in Ejura have faced the security forces and unpleasant news has been reported. The former Energy Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyako has expressed dissatisfaction about the development and described what happened as needless.
In a summary of an interview with Philip Osei Bonsu, Mr. Boakye Agyarko opined that it is never right for any military personnel to fire gunshots at an unarmed crowd.
The former Energy Minister is from the Ashanti Region but his remark is in total condemnation of what the military did. It was needless for the military to have shot into the crowd, the worse in the case is that an officer could be seen squatting and pointing the gun at a target, an indication making Mr. Boakye Agyarko believe he needed a direct body hit.
It is always good for the security forces to ensure calm during protests but that must not be achieved through killing of the same people they want to maintain peace with.
Boakye Agyarko believes, it is never right for violence to be returned with violence. “There is anger in the country and if we should continue this way, things will get out of hand”. He noted.
From his comment, the anger building up among the youth might not be as a results of politics but due to the frustrations they are going through by the day through the actions of authorities. The Police must swiftly act to ensure calm returns at Ejura before the worse happens.
