Today, Ghana hosted the African Chapter of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association for their second executive meeting. Prominent political international personalities, including the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, made an appearance to the meeting. The Minority Leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, whiles giving the opening remarks, touched on an important issue; executive-legislature clash. Haruna Iddrisu stated emphatically that the executives in African Countries must not feel threatened when the legislature becomes stronger and performs its functions better.
"My Excellency and the Vice President, who is also the Chairman, must also note that the executives in many countries have no reason to feel threatened by a stronger Parliament. What is rather important is the focus on a stronger co-operation and collaboration between the arms of government", Haruna Iddrisu noted.
Although Bawumia chaired the event, it is interesting how Haruna Iddrisu directed this statement to the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
