The Techiman police and immigration checkpoint has intercepted and arrested more than fifty (50) illegal immigrants at Tuabodom Check point who were seeking to enter the country through the land frontiers without valid documentation.

These immigrants were mostly from the neighbouring countries of Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Ivory Coast. The main purpose of seeking entry into the country is not known but its may be linked to intention to take the free covid-19 vaccine imported by the president to protect Ghanaians from the virus.

The Bono East Regional Immigration Commander, Chief Supt. Enoch Abrakwa Annor disclosed the news to Peace Fm. The officer said in obedience to the president's directives, "all land frontiers into the country are closed". Entry into the country is permitted only at the country's international airport and covid-19 test is a prerequisite requirement to enter.

The commander further added that, Bono East has set up a checkpoint at Tuabodom to check all illegal immigrants from entering the country. According to him, Berekum has also set up another checkpoint at Kato to check illegal immigrants coming from Cote d'voire and other countries.

According to the immigration officer, even though the borders are manned every day, some stubborn travellers may still find their way through bushes into the country, but such people will definitely be arrested at the checkpoints.

Mr Enoch also used the opportunity to advised GPRTU operators to check documents of persons that demand their taxi and hiring services at the country's border towns. These documents include ID card, passport, visa Ecowas card etc.

The officer also refuted the allegations of bribbery at the checkpoint by immigration officials to allow illegal immigrants to cross the border into the country.
