What You Are Saying Is No More Funny - Bernard Mornah Tells Egyapa Mercer On Live TV

Many Ghanaians continue to engage in a longstanding debate and tussle over the performance of the Akuffo-Addo NPP government especially after the recent government's proposal to introduce the now controversial Electronic transactions levy popularly known as E-levy tax. Many political analysts are confused over government's taxation drive after government promised to grow the economy with increased production.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has fiercely protested the government's effort to pass the E-levy bill pending the House. According to the opposing bloc, the tax is a pick pocket one and will impose severe hardships on the people and collapse businesses of the general public. However, government has also pleaded with Ghanaians and members of the Minority Caucus for a passage of the bill to sustain government's initiatives and projects.

Earlier today, January 26, 2022, it was a heated discussion between a former Chairman of the People's National Convention (PNC) and the Member of Parliament for the good people of Sekondi constituency, Honourable Egyapa Mercer. The debate became intense after the lawmaker and deputy Minister indicated that, the government needs the E-levy as a necessity.

According to Andrew Egyapa Mercer, his personal engagement with his constituents and other Ghanaians revealed that the people have been misinformed about the essence of the tax proposal. He indicated that he pity the opposition National Democratic Congress for throwing dust in the eyes of the general public concerning the E-levy.

Speaking further, he indicated that the Akuffo-Addo government has invested much in certain sectors than any previous administration has done. Zooming into a comparative analysis between his government's investment in the industrial sector and that of the erstwhile Mahama administration, he was optimistic to remark that his government's introduction of a tax exemption scheme makes it superior to all other regimes.

However, Comrade Bernard Mornah interjected in what can be described as a disappointment. According to Mornah, Honourable Egyapa Mercer is spewing contrary to the reality especially on the subject of the E-levy. He said, "I also did same in my constituency and no one was convinced. They were all rather angry contrary to what the MP is saying. Infact, what you are saying is no more funny to me."
