On the official Facebook page for the Deputy Minister nominee for Energy, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, is a beautiful piece of gratitude written to the President of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. This message comes after a confirmation was made via a letter that was shared by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin about the latest ministerial appointment.
His appointment has been in waiting for confirmation for months despite being convinced he would not be left out. Andrew Egyapa Mercer penned down an appreciation to the President and assured of his support in making the impact so desired of his capacity.
The adjectives were not just enough tp describe his excitement about the appointment. Yes, it is such an honorable call, and simply because it is rewarding to be called to serve just in his second term.
"Humbling. Challenging. Daunting. Exciting. Thank you Mr. President for nominating me to serve as a Deputy Minister in your second term as President of Ghana.
"With God on our side, and subject to the approval of Parliament, we shall strive to make a positive contribution to your vision of impacting Ghana positively in our lifetime. To God be the Glory" he stated.
The reactions that poured in via the post on Facebook are just overwhelming, as many expected it that much for Mr. Mercer. It is worthy to note that his predecessors have all had an opportunity to serve in cabinet, and as such his appointment reaffirms the lineage.
Before this appointment, Mr. Mercer has been actively engaging in party communications at practically every aspect of governance and politics. He's known to be knowledgeable and outspoken and strongly convincing when provoked to mount a defense on a subject.
Come clarity in terms of designation for a particular role in the Energy Ministry is expected in the coming weeks, and this is likely to be known during his vetting.
