We Were Planning A Big Demonstration If Parliament Did Not Reject The Budget - Desmond Twumasi Says

A former Parliamentary candidate for Akuapem North Constituency on the ticket of People's National Congress, Desmond Twumasi Ntow, has revealed that he and his cohorts planned to organise a massive demonstration if Parliament failed to reject the budget. He has said that, Ghanaians would rise to fight for themselves if Parliament did anythi contrary to what we are seeing today about the budget.

Desmond Twumasi indicated that the government is acting opposite to its own declarations prior to the elections. He believes only a massive nationwide protest could bring the government back to plans after imposing harsh economic conditions on Ghanaians.

He made this statement when speaking in an interview on Good Morning Africa show on Pan African TV earlier today, November 29, 2021 when sharing his opinions about matters arising from the rejected budget. According to him, he would have been disappointed in the Minority Caucus in Parliament if they passed the budget.

According to Desmond Twumasi Ntow, aside the infamous electronic transactions levy that was strongly opposed by Ghanaians, the additional 15% minimum tax on every government service charge was also a big problem to Ghanaians. He indicated he does not oppose government decision to expand the tax net but cannot sit unconcerned about the hardships in the country.

Speaking further, he showered praises on the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and leaders of the Minority Caucus including Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka for remaining committed to serving Ghanaians. He believes it was a good decision made by Parliament to kill the "insensitive" budget.

He said, "I realised that we Ghanaians need to reject that budget. I was of the view that if Parliament was not able to reject that budget, we are going to go on demonstration and let the whole world know that the government is not helping matters. It was going to be very big demonstration where everything would be exposed."
