The founder of the National Liberation Congress (NLC) Stephen Atubiga has disclosed that an attempt was made on his life by some politically exposed persons through a trusted friend. According to him, his death could have been given an entire political twist given the recent critique of his former political party; the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Atubiga indicated that his enemies [whom he did not name] connived with his best friend to poison him with a sandwich. He recounted that while on his sickbed he came to a realisation about the machinations that were orchestrated to eliminate him and to take over his political party.
He explained that his death could have been capitalized by either of the major political parties; the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), as a political game to bastardize each other. Mr Atubiga noted that the expert opinion he got from security analysts made him fear for his life given how outspoken and critical he is about politics.
He alleged that these experts with local and international expertise pinpointed that he falling out of the NDC and his continued backlash puts his life in danger.
“I have had the opportunity to talk to most security experts locally or internationally. Some security experts voluntarily called me to cushion or advised me of my security, while I called others for advice on my security…essentially was falling out from the most venomous NDC National Chairman Ampofo, and his cabal including some JDM [John Dramani Mahama] supporters” he wrote on Facebook a while ago.
Mr Atubiga added that the Inspector-General of Police has been informed about the attempt made on his life. He is hopeful that with the knowledge about the threat on his life and family, he would be vigilant.
He however shared a caution to his enemies that nothing could stop him from being outspoken and critical on issues.
“Until the God that I have depended on throughout my life allows the enemy to get me dead, nothing will stop me from being myself and doing what I do best," he said.
