I Have No Choice Than To Say That Oquaye Was A Better Unifier Than Bagbin – Muntaka Boldly Reveals

It was fireworks on Joy News’ PM Express as Evans Mensah interviewed Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Asawase. The interview centered on the happenings on the floor of Parliament yesterday. Yesterday there was a clash between Muntaka and Speaker Bagbin over certain decisions taken by the latter. The Speaker had earlier referred 3 members of the House to the Privileges Committee. According to Bagbin, the 3 have missed the 15-day sitting in the House.

Muntaka on the floor of Parliament resisted the call by Bagbin. He challenged the authority of Bagbin to make such a call when there was no clear petition brought before him. On PM Express, Muntaka explained that for someone like Adwoa Safo, she has written severally through her leadership asking for permission but they have refused to give her permission because they wanted to punish her.

Muntaka adds that he sides with Adwoa Safo because family is more important than politics and so if she has matters regarding family she needs permission to go about it. Muntaka also pointed out that out of frustration, Adwoa Safo wrote to the Speaker and yet this was referred to leadership to decide, something which was another frustration. He thus called on the speaker to see reason.

Muntaka noted that if the house allows Bagbin to have his way, one day another speaker will come to power who will also abuse power and refer NDC MPs to the committee for investigation. Interestingly, Muntaka mentioned that during the time of Speaker Mike Oquaye, the man tried to sit down with the leaders and solve issues like this.

When asked if Bagbin was not doing same, he boldly mentioned that Bagbin is struggling to do so and that Oquaye was a better unifier than Bagbin. He concluded that Bagbin doesn’t want to be seen as NDC and at the same time he doesn’t want to be seen to hate the NPP so struggling to unify the house.
