Samson Lardy Anyenini has taken a different dimension on the issue on the closure of Oyerepa FM as punishment. Samson Lardy Anyenini told the Chiefs that if they had the capability to ban and censor a media house, then they must be able to also stop the illegal mining going on in their communities.
"How can the State give out land for galamsey? Let all deny responsibility and yet tell us they are our leaders. Chiefs who can banish and censor media must be able to stop the galamsey (crime) in their backyards where they are lords, overlords and landlords.", Samson explained.
Oliver Barker Vorwamor also argued that it is interesting how Chiefs are always on the news
"Why are chiefs always in the news in Ghana? Sometimes they are insulted for returning ex-gratia they consider unconscionable. Other times they are defended over their rights to be offended for their galamsey complicit".
But Samson Lardy's analogy must be taken seriously. This is because, the Chiefs have shown that they have serious authority over the lands and have also shown that they are custodians of the land.
We all know that for Samson Lardy to make such a serious proclamation to a whole powerful institution, chieftaincy, headed by Chiefs, then he must have some basis for saying that.
One powerful chief who was alleged to be engaged in mining was the Okyenhene. The Okyenhene, in turn, has debunked all these allegations. However, some people have called on veteran journalist and legal practitioner, Lawyer Samson Lardy Anyenini, to fearlessly name the powerful chiefs who are involved in the galamsey so that they will be dealt with. Now, Samson Lardy is rather directing the message to the set of people under whose watchful vigilance, galamsey is undertaken on an unusual and disturbing large scale.
