Interior Ministry Declares May 25 Public Holiday

The Ministry of the Interior has officially declared Monday May 25 as statutory public holidays.

The day, according to the Ministry “has been declared a Public Holiday to mark “EID-AL-FITR.”

Eid al-Fitr, also called the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.

This religious Eid is the first and only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast. 

A statement issued by Mr Ambrose Dery, the sector minister on Wednesday, said the day is "Statutory Public Holiday". 

The General public is thereby notified that Sunday May 24, 2020 marks EID-AL-FITR which is a Statutory Public Holiday. However, 24th May, 2020 falls on a Sunday and by Executive Instrument (EI), His Excellency , the president of the republic of Ghana , in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (601) has declared Monday 25th May, 2020 as a public holiday”, a press statement signed by the Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery stated.

"Statutory Public Holidays should be observed as such through the country." the press release contained.
