On Sunday evening, the Asantehene while launching the 24-carat commemorative gold coins at the Manhyia Palace called on law makers to desist from frustrating the Executive when it comes to decision making. He was of the view that the Executive has a lot of things to do to develop the nation and so the Legislature can scrutinize but then shouldn’t hold the Executive by the throat. These comments have been twisted by many and given different interpretations.
According to Alhassan Suhuyini, people are attaching propaganda to certain comments made by notable Ghanaians. While speaking GHOne’s morning show, he called on the Otumfuo not to allow the partisan commentary made with their words to stay. “The Otumfuo was apt and reflective with his comments. But the speed that the propagandists in government are adding is taking away the wisdom. With all due respect he should write a rejoinder to the Daily Graphic so they retract their headline” Suhuyini said.
He noted that it was not fair for the Asantehene to be misquoted because he didn’t condemn Parliament. He added that government officials have turned themselves into propagandist who spin the words of notable people and make it look in other way. According to Suhuyini, the Asantehene made no error with his comments because he never condemned Parliament but rather made thoughtful comments and called for dialogue.
He challenged the Asantehene to write to the Daily Graphic so that he redeems his image because his words of wisdom have been turned into words of division. The newspaper rendered the comments as, 'Asantehene condemns Parliament intransigence - Fears it's recipe for civil disorder' The Tamale MP also charged the newspaper handlers to stop acting for the government and be neutral in their reportage
