There are several signs of divine calling into the prophetic ministry. The office of the prophet is one branch of the five fold ministry.(1Corinthians 12:29). This particular ministry is very unique.The unique characteristic of a prophet is the availability of power. They are heavily anointed with a great supernatural power from God.The words of the prophet is always binding in the spiritual realm.This office carries a huge spiritual responsibility. A prophet receive direct messages from God through visions, dreams, trances etc for the church. These men of God carry the gifts and power of God in a higher frequency. The spirit of God reveals deep secret to the prophet. A man with the prophetic anointing is filled with the unction to recreate shattered spiritual lives, rebuild broken spiritual walls, pull down the stronghold of the enemy (Jeremiah 1:8-10). Life and death are on the tongue of the prophet.

Every prophet of God is a righteous man who walks faithfully in the instructions of the Lord God who anointed him. This servant of God preaches the will of God to the people. God can easily punish a prophet for disobedience.(1Kings 13).A prophet must not change the word of God for fear of the people. The spirit of God is always present with the prophet.

The bible makes it clear that the office of a prophet is still operational in our days. It is only God who chooses a person to become a prophet. God impart great power to the prophet to operate in the supernatural realm.

There is no need to force yourself into the office of the prophet if God has not chosen you. This is because this office is very dangerous. Stupid mistakes are not accepted in this office. The spiritual power flowing through the prophet is in a very high voltage. The power can save an enemy of God and could destroy what God has purported to bless. In any of this case, God will be displeased with the prophet. A prophet must listen before he moves. He must not use the power anyhow. King Saul was trying to use his power to save King Agag but God became displeased. A prophet must exercised restraint in every situation until God speaks. A prophet could instantly be punished for acting against God's will.

There are several signs which may proves a person calling into the prophetic ministry. These signs are clear indication of God's direct calling into the office of the prophet. Let's set the ball rolling.

(1) Having a strong incessant desire to work as a prophet in God's vineyard is a sign of prophetic calling.

A key sign of a prophetic calling is an unflinching desire to work for the lord as a prophet. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness and they shall be filled (Mathew 5:6). If a person desires the office of a bishop, he desires a good job (1 Timothy 3: 1).Follow after charity and desire spiritual gift especially gift of prophecy.(1 Corinthians 13:1).If there is strong, unstoppable desire to operate in the prophetic, then perhaps God has chosen you to become a prophet. Persevere in prayers and God will visit you one day with the prophetic mantle in a dream to confirm your calling.

If you desire it for long time but don't see any ready sign of the prophetic power in you, then probably God's divine time to use you is still in the pipeline. Just keep waiting for the lord with your desire. The lord will surely notice your readiness and commitment and empower you.

(2) Seeing a convocation of eagles consistently in a dream is a sign of prophetic calling.

When you see many eagles in a dream, its a sign of prophetic office. The lord is probably informing you to prepare yourself for the task ahead.

The book of Isaiah prophetically used eagle to represent the power of a prophet. Even as the prophet wait on the lord for a time, he renews his spiritual strength and soars high like the eagle( Isaiah 40:30). When the dream occurs continuously, then the time for your prophetic ministry is up and preparation should start immediately. Give yourself adequate preparation. The office requires skills in fasting and prayers. You must be trained by the holy spirit to understand the word of God as written in the holy bible. God will train you before you become usable vessel. When you see a prophetic calling over your life, humble yourself and learn the work from men who have done it before.

(3) When you are given a prophetic staff or a mantle in a dream, its an indication/sign of your calling as a prophet.

God may send an angel in dream to present a prophetic staff to you as a seal of your calling into the office of the prophet. This is a common sign of prophetic calling.

The staff can be used to perform signs and wonders in dreams. These miracles will begin to manifest in the physical reality as you begin to work for the lord as a prophet. A prophet could start the work of God as an evangelist in the preparatory stages. When you are fully trained, God will begin to use you in the prophetic office. God will cloth you with great anointing from heaven to work in the supernatural realm. That is the true identity of a prophet. The office of the prophet is full of power.

A person may also be given a white prophetic mantle in a dream or vision as a seal of the prophetic anointing. A white mantle is a very powerful token of the prophetic calling. It is a symbol of supernatural power. The white mantle indicates purity and holiness as the character of God. The prophet is therefore reminded to walk in a righteous manner devoid of any sinful life.

(4) Another sign of prophetic calling is when a person prefers fasting and prayers to his own life.

A person with a prophetic calling will begin to prefer fasting and prayers to his own life. Fasting is a tiresome exercise but a person with this calling will do it with less difficulty. God will be using the fasting to prepare him to receive the supernatural power to do greater exploits. Therefore fasting and prayers is a key ingredient in the prophetic calling. A person who has fear towards fasting should forget about becoming a prophet. The life of a prophet is full of fasting. He derives his spiritual energy and power from the fasting. This is a great price to pay for this office. Consistent fasting cannot br ruled out of his life.

(5) If you hunger and thirst for the word of God all the time, it could be a sign of prophetic calling.

Another sign of calling into the prophetic office is the desire to know more about God. The person will read the scriptures every time. The bible will become a second food to his material food. He will be desiring more answers to some spiritual questions. Any person with this desire to know more about God may have been chosen by God as a prophet. The bible is book of spiritual authority to the prophet. The desire to study the scriptures will be very strong. Both day and night will be allocated for the study of the bible. This desire cannot be quenched until the expectation of the prophet is fulfilled and that is to receive power from God.

(6) A person may be having frequent trances and visions even during the day as a sign of calling into the office of the prophet.

A person with a prophetic calling could experience several trances and have clear visions in a day. He may also have his spiritual eyes opened to see into the spiritual dimensions of life. A person with the calling may also vividly remember details of dreams he has had several years ago. The spirit of God gives remembrance to prophets all the time because the visions are many. God spoke to various prophets like Daniel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, etc through visions and dreams.

(7) Another sign of prophetic calling is constantly battling demons in your dreams.

When a person frequently battles demons in a dream, it may be an indication of prophetic calling to pull down the stronghold of the enemy. God might have anointed him spiritually to scatter the kingdom of darkness and bring deliverance to God's people. The fellow must commit himself to prayer and fasting in order to grow and become stronger than all the demons.

These signs may indicate a prophetic calling in a person's life.
