"When the unclean spirit is gone out of man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first." (Luke11:24-26)KJV
The more we study God's word ,the more we come to the realization that those things that have appeared mysterious and at which we have been at a loss with regards to explanation, are not mysterious at all as we have supposed. All things are naked and bare before the word which is light and therefore understanding is always gleaned when matters are reviewed under its lenses. Diligence is what is required and once it is in place then mysteries become common knowledge.
It is common knowledge that when a person is delivered from any affliction, should he fall again into it for whatever reason, his latter end is worse than before. This is seen in the a area of healing or when one is converted from a wayward life. Many have been at a loss as to why such things happen and that is what the study for today seeks to address. The answer to this was given by no mean a person that Jesus Christ and it will do us well to review it. To begin with, we must understand that almost every deviant behavior or anomaly a person may exhibit is as a result of workings of the evil spirits. They are responsible for all forms of affliction and any situation that robs a person of his complete joy and freedom.
In Jesus's words he said,"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first." By this, Jesus Christ reveals to us several important information we are to know about evil spirits. He first reveals that they can go out of a man. We must understand that it is not a voluntary going out that is expressed by Jesus.
The expression was translated from the Greek word "exerchomai" which means to be forced out or escape. It suggests one leaving because he is left with no choice. This tells us that evil spirits are not omnipotent and cannot choose to abide at a place forever. They remain for as long as they are allowed. The second thing we see from the words of Jesus is that these evil spirits seek rest anytime they are cast out. This rest speaks of a place of abode. Proof of this is seen from Jesus' encounter with the mad man of Gadara. According to the gospel of the St. Mark , the devils, upon realizing that they were to be cast out, made a request of Jesus saying,"...Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them." (Mark 5:12). So evil spirits never want to be without a home and thus is what Jesus expresses in the test of study. We shall proceed further on this in the next article. Be sure to join the test of study, Shalom!
