Yesterday's act by the controversial captain smart, a leading convenor of the famous fixthecountry# campaign at the independence square during yesterday's demonstration has sparked a lot of debate and controversies among Ghanaians and Christians in particular.
As a staunch Christian and a member of the church of Pentecost, people expected him to say a Christian prayer to initiate the whole event, but instead he was seen with two bottles of schnapps in both hands invoking the spirits of Kwame Nkrumah and the forefathers of the country to wake up and fortify them throughout the event, forgetting he was brought up the Christian way and probably his church pastors would be watching him live.
This single act by the journalist has called a lot of criticism on him, especially from the Christian community. But it would surprise you to know that captain actually knew the implication of pouring libation and he might have got to realize there was nothing wrong with it before indulging in the act.
Upon several research I came to the realisation that some prominent followers of God poured libation in the Bible and these Bible verses settles the debate once and for all;
According to the book of Genesis 35:14 Jacob set up a pillar in the place where the angel had spoken with him, a pillar of stone and poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it.The book of Philippians 2;17 which is in the new testament also reads; But if also I am poured out as a libation on the sacrifice and ministration of your faith, I rejoice and rejoice in common with you all. And finally Exodus 25:29 god commanded Moses to make him plates, dishes, jars and bowls from which libation will be poured and they are to be made of pure gold.
So even the bible, both the old and new testaments approves of pouring libation by believers unto God. But another question that will arise is was the libation poured in honour of the most high God? Your guess is as good as mine.
