Murtala Mohammed, the law maker for Tamale Central has hit out hard at President Akufo-Addo for betraying the Muslim fraternity. According to him, Akufo-Addo made them promise to do something and then he turned aside the to the opposite. News have been rife on a new variant of Covid-19. According to medical experts, Sputnik V and AstraZeneca vaccines are not effective against them.
Murtala Mohammed today, Tuesday, June 22, 2021 joined Berla Mundi on TV3’s ‘New Day’ to discuss the threats of Covid-19. Murtala explained that safety protocols were observed at the funeral of Rawlings. According to him government took steps to make sure they adhered to the protocols. “I remember when the family in Keta wanted to do same, the government stopped it because of Covid. If they could stop that couldn’t have done same with Sir John
We had fasting as Muslims. We fasted for 30/29 days. One of the most important obligations after the fasting was to observe Id ul Fitr. Government met the Chief Imam and used Covid to stop it. This is the first time this has happened. Few weeks later government officials attended a funeral and neglected safety protocols. As Muslims we feel we have been betrayed by the President and government. He denied us our celebration and he went and broke the protocols.
Can you tell me the President did not know that there were many people before he got there? The President should have turned around when he saw the crowd. The Vice President was mobbed. The entire Muslim community in Ghana was denied a celebration. Isn’t this a betrayal of trust and confidence?” Murtala Mohammed explained
Many have also pointed hands at the NDC General Secretary for also breaking the protocols. However, this point can easily be defeated because it is difficult to tell when Asiedu Nketia got to the place but it was clear that the President and his entourage arrived at a time when the funeral grounds was full.
