To prevent the manifestation of bad dreams; this is what believers should do.

Bad dreams or Nightmares are vividly realistic, disturbing dreams that can disturb sleep, that can create fear, palpitations, and rapid breathing. You will suddenly wake up scared and don't really know what to do.

Scientifically, all dreams including bad ones or nightmares are a result of the brain's electrical activity during sleep, they do not signify or mean anything specific. The subjects of nightmares can vary from person to person.

In the spiritual world, however, it has some significance with respect to its connection to reality. This is because, there are evidence all over, that, some dreams, good or bad do manifest in reality. They play out like movies before us.

It is therefore imperative to know what to do whenever you have a bad dream. The purpose of such actions will obviously be to prevent bad dreams from coming to pass.

Prayer. That is the answer. Not just any prayer. There are specific supplication prescribed in this circumstance by both the Christians and Islamic ethos.

Soon after the rough awake from a bad dream, you have to act immediately by saying a direct prayer or action or both. The bible is replete with such prescriptions. Take for instance Chapter 18 of the book of Matthew, where in verse 18, a specific prayer is taught;

"O Mighty God, I pray against my bad dreams right now. I pray that whatever I bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; whatever I loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. I bind up the attacks that the adversary has had on my sleep in Jesus’ Name. Please give me sweet, God-given dreams when I lay my head to rest. I pray that the plans that the enemy has on my sleep be destroyed. Amen".

This is a direct submission to the will of the creator. By faith, the Lord will prevent any manifestation of bad dreams. Luke 10:19, John 10:10, are also prayers the believer can rely on.

In Islam, the hadith (Sayings of the Prophet Mohammed S.A.W.) has reported a direct remedy of bad dreams, which the Prophet (S.A.W.) admonished his followers to do.

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "When one of you sees a bad dream let him blow three times on his left, seek refuge in Allah from the Satan three times (i.e., by saying: A'udhu billahi minash-Shaitanir-Rajim) and change the side on which he was lying.'' [Muslim].

Meaning, on seeing a bad dream, one should change his side. If he is lying on his right side, he should turn to the left, and vice versa. By this precaution, Allah will turn a bad dream into a good one by His leave.

May Almighty God guide us and protect every believer from all evil.
