Actions of the Catholic Bishops over the Ejura Shooting Incident

The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) says it is "disgusted" at the shooting incident in Ejura which led to the death of two young men named, Murtala Mohammed and Abdul Yusif, during the protest to demand justice for the murder of Ibrahim Mohammed also known as Kaaka

The Catholic Bishops said they have expressed time again, the need for the security agencies to be very professional in the discharge of their duties especially when it comes to dealing with crowd, but the situation is rather getting out of hand and does not speak well of the country

The Bishops stated that soldiers aiming and shooting at unprotected and unarmed citizenships is not only condemnable but also a criminal offense and should be investigated so as the perpetrators must be punished by law

They again said this needs to be done with all haste because the citizenships of the country are gradually losing their trust in the ability of the security agencies to handle such cases effectively and with all competency. The Bishops have, however, pleaded with all youth of the country, especially those of Ejura to restrain themselves from engaging in acts that can result in social unrest
