5 Pastors in Africa Who Always Make the Media Talk About Them (Opinion)

The pastors we are going to talk about are always involved in antics that the make the media talk about them all the time. Often it's for the wrong reasons and despite all this, people still follow them and hold on to whatever they saw or do as though they are messiah.

See below:

1. Pastor Alph Lukau- South Africa

Pastor Alph Lukau is the founder of Alleluia Ministries. He's a televangelist, author and mister of the Gospel. He has a long history of jaw dropping controversies that clearly undermine his credibility as a true man of God. In 2019, he caused a huge scare that gained worldwide recognition by bringing a dead man to life.

Speaking to Gauteng broadcaster Power FM’s Power Drive host Thabiso Tema, Lukau said he was busy with a sermon on Sunday when he was interrupted and told that a person in a coffin had been brought to the church.

“Before entering the premises of the church, the coffin began to shake, meaning the person was alive,” Lukau explained. “I am really sorry for the misrepresentation of facts, the man was not dead and has never been in the mortuary as we earlier said”,

When asked by the host why the man had been brought to the church in the first place, Lukau said: “I am not sure if I can make a statement that he was brought to me. We are the house of God and I’m just a pastor serving in the house of the Lord. But I am sorry that we didn’t tell people the truth in the first place”, he said.

2. Bishop Daniel Obinim- Ghana

Bishop Daniel Obinim and controversies are bedfellows. He also has a long history of controversies that have even been discussed on big international media outlets like Aljazeera.

He recently flirted with yet another controversy when he claimed he has special oil that can cure coronavirus. Presently, he has a feud with Ghanaian lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong who has exposed all the dirty skeletons hidden in his closet, including fraud, sleeping with females of his church.

3. Prophet Shepherd Bushiri- South Africa

The founder and leader of Enlightened Christian Gathering Church is unarguably the most controversial pastor in recent times. He and his wife were granted bail of R100 000 each in the Specialized Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria in February 2019 after they were arrested by the Hawks on charges of fraud, money laundering and contravening the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

4. Prophet Penuel Mnguni- South Africa

Prophet Mnguni is the head of End Times Disciples Ministries in Soshanguve, Pretoria, South Africa. He is famed for feeding his followers snakes – which he claims turn into chocolates.

In other instances, the 25-year-old pastor allegedly turned his church members into snakes in 2016 and he asked members to get naked before praying to him.

In 2018, News24 reported that he had served his congregants dog meat for communion. In a video posted on the self-proclaimed prophet's Facebook page, Mnguni can be seen feeding dog meat to his followers.

5. TB Joshua- Nigeria

TB Joshua- real name Temitope Balogun Joshua is known for making a lot predictions some of which come to pass. His credibility was put in serious doubt recently when he said the deadly coronavirus will end on March 37, 2020. In a viral video, the televangelist is seen telling his congregants that the dreaded disease will go the way it came.

“By the end of this month, no matter the medicine they produced to cure whatever, it will go the way it came…

“If it is not medicine that brought this to the world, medicine cannot take it out, it will go the way it came,” he prophesied. However, that did not materialize!
