The date that will be commemorated as a public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Adha has been made public by the Ministry of Interior.
A statement signed by the Interior Minister, Hon. Ambrose Dery indicates that Saturday, 9th July 2022 marks ‘Eid-ul-Adha’ which is a Statutory Public Holiday.
However, 9th July 2022 falls on a Saturday. Because of that, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Akufo-Addo has by an Executive Instrument (EI), and in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (601) declared Monday, 11th July, 2022 as a public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.
Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice is the most important feast in the Muslim calendar. It celebrates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael in submission to Allah's command, before he was stopped by Allah.
All Muslims in Ghana will join their counterparts all over the globe to celebrate such an important day.
