Priviledged To Stand In The Gap

Genesis 18:22-25

22 Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the LORD. 23 And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? 25 Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

Whatever God does on the earth, He wants to partner with some of His obedient children. Out of His pleasure to get man involved, He constantly looks for people He can partner with. God found a good reason to partner with Abraham concerning Sodom and Gomorrah. Immediately Abraham started his intercessory ministry. See how he pleaded with God until the situation presented itself as hopeless. I am sure Abraham did not have the boldness to pray for a city that did not have 10 righteous people to save it. His faith was gone. At that point there was nothing else than for God to rain fire and brimstone on the city. The critical lesson for us in this is that at least Abraham stood in the gap.

There is too much happening in our world today that requires people standing in the gap. God has not stopped looking for partners. Sometimes we get so angry with people who are taking God’s name in vain that praying for them and their folks is the last thing that comes to us. We secretly wish God would punish them to make us feel good. That is not God’s way.

1. Thank God for finding in you a partner to stand in the gap for your people and your country.

2. Pray that you will pursue this calling with all the diligence, humility and commitment it deserves.

3. Father, please lift me up to be a good intercessor to stand in the gap for my people.

I acknowledge the privilege to partner with God as an intercessor. My heart is totally committed to this call. With my whole being I take my place as an intercessor. I draw strength from the Holy Spirit and execute this partnership with all the joy that goes with it. I declare by the grace of God that I am privileged to stand in the gap as an intercessor to pray for the salvation and deliverance of many in the name of Jesus.
