Christian girl in Sokoto lynched and burnt by angry mob for saying Jesus made her pass her exam

Authorities at the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto closed the facility indefinitely following the lynching and burning of a student by his colleagues for alleged blasphemy.

The student, identified only as Deborah, is said to have been attacked by an angry mob over comments deemed insulting to the Prophet Muhammad.

A source who spoke to the Tribune said the problems started when the woman was asked by her friends how she managed to pass the exam.

The deceased student, believed to be a Christian, is said to attribute his academic achievements to Jesus.

Chosen from his responses, the source said he was asked to retract the statement - which he refused.

"He was arguing with some of his classmates about his current exam and when asked how he passed the exam, he said it was Jesus," the source said.

"He was asked to retract the statement and apologize, but he refused.

“School security intervened and took him to his post, but they were taken over by the students, after which he was killed in the process. After he killed him, his body was cremated in the school building.

In response to this incident, the campus ordered all students to immediately leave the campus.

“Following the early-morning student riots at the College today, the College Board has decided to immediately close the College indefinitely. Therefore, all students are instructed to immediately leave campus (12 May 2022)," the statement read.
