Bold Question: How Much Did You Contribute Towards The National Mosque? Alhassan Suhuyini

The Member of Parliament for the Tamale North constituency, Mr Alhassan Suhuyini is demanding to know how much money the office of the the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu had contributed towards the construction of the National Mosque.

This demand follows a special donation by the Chief Imam towards the construction of the National Cathedral.

The Chief Imam on Thursday donated an amountof of 50,000 Ghana Cedis towards the construction of the controversial national cathedral. The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has also made similar donation.

Obviously unconvinced about the motive behind this kind gesture, the NDC legislator wants to know how much cash the office the highly revered Chief Imam, donated to support the construction of the gigantic National Mosque which cost $10 million.

Unlike the National Cathedral, the National Mosque which was commissioned in July 2021, was funded by the Turkish Hudai Foundation for the Ghanaian Muslim community with the help of the goverment of Turkey.

In March 2020, President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for work to begin on the construction of the 5,000-seats capacity National Cathedral. The goverment has since began soliciting for funds from the general public towards the execution of the project, which the Chief Imam has also responded to.

But in a Facebook post, Mr Suhuyini believes this is part of a propaganda being orchestrated by Vice President Dr Bawumia, against former President John Mahama.
