The Revolution of Love, Part I

I know perfectly what you are thinking, yes I mean you my cherished reader. You are wondering what I mean by Revolution in the context of love right? You can bear with me that what you heard at least concerning the institutionalization of the celebration of valentine's day shows that, love in the olden days is not the same as the love we are experiencing today

I would like us to understand love in simple terms and I believe you are still here with me for us to digest love in a proper perspective. There are so many definitions of love but simply I would say, love involves emotions and behaviors characterized by passion, intimacy, and commitment when it is positive. Love is very complex and variable.

Now let us look at the meaning of love from the biblical context. The bible stated in 1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 8 that, love is patient and is kind, love does not envy. Love does not brag, is not proud, it does not behave itself inappropriately, does seek its own way, is not provoked, it takes no account of evil, does rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoice with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.

Hmmm, the question now is has the concept of love changed over the years with divorce rate increasing day-by-day, slay queens here and there, friends with benefits, sugar mummies, sugar daddies and many more. How do we compare today's love to that of the olden days. This difference is what I termed 'the revolution of Love'.

But before I touch on the differences between the olden day's love and that of today's, I will like to enlighten you on the types of love we have. And I believe this will help you to make a lot of determinations going into a relationship and or as you are into one.

Love is just like an onion, it has a lot of segments and all come together to make our love world so beautiful. Let me tell you, yes you my cherished reader that is because of the love you have for me. That is why you are reading my article and you will eventually find the type of love you have for me and my articles.

We have Romantic Love, this is the puppy type of love where attraction and closeness are combined. Sexual love is next on the love table, and this is the intimate expression of love. Next is Pragmatic Love, this is a rational , reasoning kind of love.

The other types of love are Platonic love, and it is also the spiritual and intellectual relationship between a man and a woman. Companionship love deals with a love typically found in good friendships. Also, we have Altruistic (Agape) Love, and this is the selfless love where care, tenderness and affection is freely given and expect nothing in return.

Here comes Manic love, and this is the craziest, possessive, jealous kind of love and the last on my table of love is Self-love, which is egoistic, narcissistic kind of love.

In an ideal marital relationship you would experience all this type of love everyday. However, until you are married, you can still experience most types of love with a variety of persons.

My dear cherished reader, thank you for your time and watch out for Part II where the distinctions of olden days and today's love will be elaborated.
