There has been several debates across the globe in relation to marrying more than one wife. Some believe, it is a sin to marry more than one wife as it violates certain principles in the Bible. Others believe, there is nothing wrong with marrying more than one wife. A lot of big names in the Bible all had more than one wife. In today's article, let us look at what the Bible say about this.
In Matthew 19:4-5
When asked about marriage, Jesus said: “He who created them from the beginning made them male and female and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh.’
It was clearly stated here that, one will go and be with his wife and not wives. This was in the new testament of the Bible.
1 Timothy 3:2 12
The Bible also states that any married man in the Christian congregation who is given special responsibilities must be “a husband of one wife"
It also states clearly that one husband to one wife and not more.
However, before the new Testament in the Bible, there was the Old Testament. It had several stories and sayings about persons who married two.
King Solomon had 700 wives.
Lamech also had two wives.
David also had 8 wives.
It is also seen here that, these greats men of God had more than one wife.
This is what the Bible say about marrying more than one wive. There are several other quotations in the Bible talk about this.
However, the new Testament seems to only focus on marrying just one wife.
