Woman pretends to be dead, forces loved ones to cry at a fake funeral - See her reasons for doing so

Mayra Alonzo, 59, spent £710 on a mock funeral because "the deaths from the coronavirus pandemic had encouraged her to celebrate her life with the fake funeral," according to her.

Since she decided to 'celebrate her life,' she spent hours lying in a coffin with her friends pretending to weep around her to rehearse her own funeral.

Mayra Alonzo, 59, held the funeral rehearsal at her home in Santiago at the end of last month, inviting friends to act as if they were grieving for her.

She wore all white, had a flower crown on her head, and had cotton in her nostrils at times, simulating the handling of a corpse in a mortuary.

According to Listin Diario, a Dominican news site, the ceremony cost £710, with the proceeds going toward the coffin and refreshments for the hundreds of guests.

Her relatives, family, and neighbors showed up to pretend to weep or take photos of the occasion, but they were all thanked for their assistance in organizing it.

Alonzo called the experience a "dream come true" and said that she does not want a funeral when she dies in real life because she has "done it all."

The incident perplexed social media users, with some criticizing the woman for staging a fake funeral at a time when Coronavirus is claiming so many lives.
