The number of road accidents in Ghana is increasingly becoming an issue of concern as the cases are on the rise per the statistics from the Ghana Police Service.
Since the beginning of the year 2021, a total of 2,560 cases of road crashes has been recorded accross the 16 Regions in Ghana with 771 persons losing their lives through these accidents.
The Ashanti Region recorded the highest number of road accidents with 108 cases of accidents from January to March this year, the Eastern Region follows closely with 91 cases of road accidents being recorded.
Below is the breakdown of the number of road accidents in all the 16 Regions in Ghana.
Greater Accra Region : 89 cases
Ashanti Region : 108 cases
Eastern Region : 91 cases
Central Region : 29 cases
Western Region : 30 cases
Volta Region : 17 cases
Northern Region : 10 cases
Upper West Region : 9 cases
Upper East Region : 26 cases
Bono Region : 15 cases
Bono East Region : 27 cases
Ahafo Region : 10 cases
Oti Region : 8 cases
Savannah Region : 33 cases
Western North Region : 13 cases
North East Region : 2 cases
Total : 2,560 cases.
According to statistics from the Ghana Police Service, the number of motor cycles involved in accidents is 974, whiles pedestrian knock downs are 2,766 with 771 persons killed from January to March 2021.
