A thief in Nigeria, Adejumo Maruf, has revealed that his love for his wife and children prompted him to steal a school minibus. The man said he had no choice but to commit the crime in order to lure his family after his wife ran away from their marital home with their five children. Maruf, who marched to the police command headquarters in Osogbo, Osun state, said,
“It is true that I stole a Korope (minibus in local language) from Criterion nursery and primary school in the Kelebe region after working with the school for about three months. I did this to earn money and take care of my wife and children. I was living a decent life in Lagos State before things fell apart over two years ago and we moved to Osogbo. However, there was no change and my wife left with our five children. Since that time, things were even more difficult.
So I started driving the school minibus. After about three months, I went to school and took him to Lagos. I was using it as a passenger bus before being pulled over after two days in Ajah area, Lagos state. I love my wife and children and can do anything for them." The suspect allegedly fled with the bus on June 8 in Lagos state, where he converted it to a commercial bus before being arrested by police.
