Cured Lepers at the Ho Leprosarium Appeal for Assistance.

Cured Lepers at the Ho Leprosarium Appeal for Assistance.

Cured lepers at the Ho leprosarium have appealed to Government and benevolent organisations to assist them in any kind as they presently lack support for their daily upkeep. The lepers claim they have for the past six months not received stipends from Government’s Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Programme.

The caretaker of the village Mr. Nelson Attitoe in an interview with GBC News said the Corona Virus Pandemic also has a negative tone on the lepers because they hardly receive donations from philanthropists and benevolent organisations. He said they were running out of food stock and that was affecting them negatively. In a bid to help the situation an NGO based in Ghana, “Viscare Foundation” has donated assorted food items, clothes, beverages and foods to the village. The gesture was borne out of the organisation’s objective to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in society.

Meanwhile, a UK based NGO, The Well Foundation has donated some seven Butterfly Sewing Machines to the lepers to enable them engage in some vocational skills and training to support their livelihood.
