A family is mourning the death of their sons this morning. It is heart-breaking learning that the deceased are the only children in the house, the mother [whose name is yet to be identified] is a widow. Nurudeen [eldest], Hakeem, and Shakey [youngest], all siblings in their early adulthood met their untimely death in a motor accident yesterday after the Eid prayers, in Banso of the Asante Akim South District.
According to eyewitnesses account, only the younger siblings died instantly upon colliding with a cargo truck on the Banso-Atiemo road. They were on a motorcycle heading for Atiemo to cheer up footballers in the community.
A soccer match was scheduled for today [Wednesday 21 July 2021] between the two communities as part of the Eid celebration, so they felt it would be nice to cheer their ‘rivals’ in their local games and also understudy their tactics for the next day.
But on their route to the town, with the younger one behind the wheels of the motorcycle, they were crushed by the truck in a sharp curved on the road. Eyewitnesses say, there was a broken-down vehicle in that sharp curve obstructing view for road users.
The driver of the motorcycle was speeding and lost his controls and braking system when suddenly the young men on the motorcycle appeared in front of his truck. He tried several times to save them but it was far too close and late to maneuver.
The three siblings who died in the accident
He knocked them from the motorcycle. Shakey got his head hit and stuck in the windscreen, Hakeem was crush in the head and left breeding profusely.
The eldest, Nurudeen sustained serious injury. He was sent to the Komfo Anokye Hospital but nothing could save him from death. He was reported dead this morning. The mother could hardly hold herself up to the news.
The uncle couldn’t even console her as he even broke into tears and retired to his chambers, a local reporter, Obiri Yeboah said. The entire community has been thrown into shock about this accident, especially on the back of the strange happening in the family.
As it is today, the only surviving person is the widow, even with her is a serious medical condition she has been battling since the husband passed away years ago. As an Islamic tradition, the bodies of the these three siblings will have to be buried and a funeral rite performed for their safe passage.
