The operation was conducted by the security task in the region where they arrested thirty-six-year-old Kofi Damoah and his friend Stephen Ansu who were engaging in illegal mining in the area.
According to sources, the persons arrested have been breaking the rules and engaged in several illegal mining activities contributing to the pollution of various water bodies making them unsafe for drinking.
The fight against Galamsey has been a major priority for the ruling New Patriotic Party government led by His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo and has deployed several military men to get people from the various sites.
The immediate action has been the burning of excavators at the illegal mining sites which many have talked against. For the government, mining must pass through the proper channel.
