95-Year-Old Man Becomes The Oldest Organ Donor In US History

A 95-year-old man who lives in West Virginia has become the oldest organ donor in the United States of America after he passed away last week.

Cecil Lockhart, of Welch, West Virginia passed away on May 4, and his liver was donated to an old woman in her 60's.

The Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) revealed the news in a statement issued on May 4.

"The Center for Organ Recovery and Education is amazingly proud to have been able to make this historic organ donation a dream come true,"said Susan Stuart, CORE president and Chief Executive Officer. "This landmark in the field of transplantations is just another scenario of CORE's pioneering legacy and commitment to innovation, which, over the past 40 years, has provided 6,000 people in the United States the chance to save more than 15,000 others as organ donors."

Lockhart's family said he took a decision to become an organ donor over 10 years ago after his son Stanley died and helped heal 75 precious lives via tissue and cornea donation following his demise.

Cecil is survived by his lawfully wedded wife, Helen, who he was married to for almost 75years, his daughter, Sharon White, and his only son Brian Lockhart, including grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

"He was a kind person when he was alive, and we are filled with excitement and hope knowing that, even after a long, joyful life, he is able to continue that legacy of kindness," Cecil's lovely daughter, Sharon White, said. "When my brother was a donor after he died some few years ago, it helped my father to heal. And today, being aware his life is continuing through others really is being of help to us through our grief too."
