Popular Chief Banned From Celebrating Festival This Year After Being Taken To Court

Tamale magistrate court has banned Tamale Bugu-Lana from celebrating this year's Damba Festival after the Tamale Metropolitan Police Command dragged him to court.

The Bugu-Lana yesterday was in court with Dakpema over who has the power to celebrate this year's Damba Festival. The case which was adjourned to today was heard by the Tamale magistrate court.

The Tamale magistrate court ruled that the Bugu-Lana should not celebrate the festival for this year and hence banned from Beating any drum for the next 18 months

The Bugu-Lana was selected and outdoored in May this year following the demise and funeral rite of Tamale Bugu-Lana Alhassan who passed away in September 2020.

The Tamale Metropolitan Police Command dragged the two chiefs to court to ensure that the rightful chief celebrate the Damba Festival after police intelligence picked up information that the chiefs are planning to battle on the Damba Festival day over who has power to celebrate the festival.
