Personnel from the Accra Regional Police Command have busted a man who is affirmed to utilize the name of Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye, Director - General responsible for Legal and Prosecutions of the Ghana Police Service, to execute extortion.
The suspect, Ernest Bondzie Arthur, 36, jobless, is accounted for to have cheated two individuals of GH¢8,000 under the appearance of getting them enrolled into the Ghana Police Service.
As indicated by the police, he allegedly gathered the cash from his victims in Accra as of late during the continuous enrollment practice and departed suddenly.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Juliana Obeng, affirming the capture to the DAILY GUIDE, said the complainants got to know the suspect in 2014 and 2021 individually.
She said the presume acquainted himself with one of the complainants as a sports journalist and acquainted himself with the second complainant as a helper to a Member of Parliament.
"In the new police enrollment work out, the suspect told his victims he had contact with the senior COP Boakye, through whom he could get them enrolled into the assistance," DSP Obeng uncovered.
DSP Obeng said the two victims showed interest in the enrollment and paid GH¢2,000 and GH¢6,000 individually to the suspect, adding "subsequent to gathering the cash, the suspect departed suddenly and neglected to answer the calls from the complainants thus a report was held up with the police."
She said the police, through examinations, caught the suspect from his refuge in Accra throughout the end of the week where he conceded to the offense evened out against him.
DSP Obeng said the presume would be put under the steady gaze of court for impersonation and defrauding with false pretenses.
