Three in critical condition at Jasikan Zongo road accident
Over speeding kills a person every four hours in Ghana, and it was these that drove the attention of the government and other stakeholders, into drafting swift measures in protecting passengers in case of road accidents. These laws gives a passenger the right, to file a civil law suit against the driver of the car and the owners of the car, which got them into accident. If the driver was faulty and defaulted during a court of competent jurisdictions, the court will either fine them monetary damages, as well as suspending their license to drive for a certain number of months or years. If citizens and other victims of road accidents, were taking these cases serious, Ghana would have curbed most of the road accidents which happens on our roads. But because of the citizens taking advantage of the laws passed by Government, the drivers continuous over speeding, even on third and community roads.
Jasikan Muslim community, was affected heavily after a driver drifted from the road, and ploughed into a four bedroom commercial house at Jasikan Zongo community. Jasikan is a small town with a population of less than 40,000 and it is the capital of the Jasikan District Assembly. The town is widely recognized because of the Jasikan College of Education, which has trained over 100,000 teachers since its creation. Jasikan Muslim zongo community, was created in the 1960's, to serve as a home for Muslims coming into Jasikan. The community which is persistent with third class roads, is one of the roads which was currently asphalted in the 2020 roads, to bring ease to residents and travellers.
Over 90% of drivers who uses the road, has taken to speed, ever since the Jasikan Muslim road was asphalted with coal and chippings. The road leading to Big Mosque, the biggest general mosque in Jasikan, was where a driver took to speed and couldn't survive it. Because of the speeding of some drivers, the Zongo men and women, with permission from the Jasikan Assembly, constructed a dozens of speed ramps on the road to check drivers from over speeding.
The driver of the Nissan Caravan private car, took to speed after reaching the Big Mosque road. He couldn't see the speed ramps ahead of him, and ploughed through it with speed. The first ramp threw the car off the road, and went directly to a house sitting adjacent to the mosque. Just in front of the Big Mosque, near the DCE Road, was where the accident took place. The driver along with the two passengers at the front seat received critical injuries to their heads, and were rescued to the Jasikan Hospital, where they are receiving treatment at the ICU. The back seat passenger of the car were all fine, with minor injuries. There was no one in the house, at the time of he accident. Because of the Friday Muslim prayers, all occupants of the house were at the Big Mosque doing prayers.
Worshipers from the mosque, were the first responders who came to the victims rescue. The house recorded damages from the back to within. Properties ranging from flat screen television, home appliances, kitchen utensils, were all affected from the accident.
