The private security guards ensuring safety at the Kejetia Market have been made bitter, and have come to voice out their plight. They are complaining about non-payment of salaries and are threatening to extend the wrath to all traders in the market. These guards claim they work with passion but the government is just not seeing the effort they are putting into their work.
The leader of this Delta force group is Mr. Isaac Owusu and he disclosed that, they have been working for two good years but haven't been given ID cards which even shows they work there. Aside that, they haven't been paid for four months even though, they show up at work everyday.
Mr. Isaac went ahead to talk about how this is affecting them as well as their families. They are breadwinners and therefore, their families are always expectant that they bring something to the table but, here they are.
He even went ahead to talk about how their salaries even before the past four months were low. "We were given 500 cedis but the little deductions even reduced it", he added.
Now, the issue over here is that, they claim if they aren't attended to, they will lock the gates of the Kejetia Market by 3rd December. The market women will wake up in the morning and come to the market only to find it locked. This is going to affect productivity and the finances of the market women in the long run.
We are in December and business is supposed to boom but these guys are not going to rest if they aren't attended to. This issue is alarming and I hope we solve it as soon as possible.
