Yesterday was another awful day for the people of Bantama and its environs as they experienced heavy rains resulting in the deaths of two people and destruction of several properties. The rains are said to have started around 4pm yesterday. As a result one bridge at Bantama got destroyed by the rains causing the whole place to be flooded. Fortunately they were able to rescue two others who were being taken away as a result of the floods.
Sadly, one of the victim's body was found just this morning and according to witnesses, the person had gone to buy some foodstuffs from the market and was returning home just to meet her death. Several properties such as TVs, mattresses, fridges and others all got washed away by the rain.
The Assembly Member for Abrepo Mpatase Electoral Area, Hon Daniel Acheampong said the rains really causes a lot of problems and this is because most people have come to settle in places without proper drainage system causing the area to be flooded whenever it rains. He is therefore appealing to the government to help in the construction of proper drainage system for the community as they keep on losing the lives of their loved ones and properties.
According to some residents this situation has persisted for about five to seven years now and nothing has been done about it yet.
This is really worrying if as a country we keep on losing people because of rains. The government should sit up as most engineers do shody works leaving innocent citizens to suffer the consequences.
