The Communication officer for National Democratic Congress, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi has stated that President Nana Akufo-Addo should stop burning the excavators being seized by the task force and do this instead.
According to lawyer Sammy Gyamfi on Thursday, 27th May, 2021, he stated that:
"Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the prosecution and 15-25 year imprisonment of illegal miners as provided under our Minerals and Mining Act, is a more deterrent and effective way of fighting the “galamsey” menace than the burning of Excavators. #StopTheLawlessness."
After Sammy Gyamfi informing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to use this method which will help in the fight against Galamsey menace, Ghanaians have reacted massively to his post on social media and Ghanaians are a bit divided over what lawyer Sammy Gyamfi said which is below.
Someone said: I will be happy if the sponsors are jailed, including the foreign nationals. But funny enough, the law will only work on the ones in the pit.
Another person said: This same man said the prosecution was too harsh last time. Now look at what he is saying. Democracy is not for Ghanaians. We need Automatic system.
Another Ghanaian stated that: I beg to differ counsel, with the opinion that our prisons are already congested and incarcerating more people would make matters worse. Probably an alternative sentencing could be looked at.
Another person commented that: I support the burning 100% since the justice system in Ghana sometimes delay. The delay will still make them continue doing the galamsey. Burning it is a quick action only those involve are against it, and if u don't have the equipment at mining site what are u afraid of? It seems those doing it are more opposition members. We all said Nana and his relatives are doing the galamsey but today, they are burning it and you same people crying again, it's for them and they are burning it themselves so what is your problem now? You think you are smart.
