The nature of the police work is very risky to the extent that a lot of unfortunate act happens in line of duty. There has been several occasions where police officers have died on duty. Some of the incidents are deliberately orchestrated by fully armed robbers while some are unintentional. We have experienced accounts where robbers target police officers to get rid of them before executing their plans.
One clear instance is the recent killing of a Lance Corporal who was escorting a bullion van in Accra. He died instantly as the onlookers stood helpless and watch like an action movie. This is to say that these occurences are unfortunate despite the fact that most of the perpetrators are been arrested.
Another police officer, Ernest Newton Dwamena has passed on to glory in line of duty at Buipe in the Savannah Region of Ghana. According to the information that was gathered, the officer was at a check point when a truck driver lost control and crushed him to death instantly. This has brought nothing but tears in the faces of Ghana Police and the general public as a whole. It is sad for an officer to exchange pleasantries at home with the family and not return again from work. The incident has made the police to celebrate the hero and has therefore commiserate with the bereaved family to stay strong in this difficult times.
"Like other police officers, Ernest said goodbye to his family and left for duty hoping to see them after the close of work but unfortunately met his untimely death due to the nature of our work. Like other fallen colleagues, his name will be engraved in gold on our hearts", they wrote.
