Methodists, Church of Pentecost, Christian Council, Islamic Council, Supports Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill

The campaign for the passing of the anti lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer proponents in the Parliament House has taken a whole new look after the honorable Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Samuel Nartey George confirmed that the various religious groups in the country have officially rallied their support behind the passing of the Bill into law by Parliament.

He posted the whole new development on his Facebook page a little while ago informing the general populace that the passing of the anti-LGBTQ Bill is in full force and shall finally be successful. The clergy have appended over 15,000 signatures to the a number of memos (about 15 of them) presented to Parliament through Sam George.

He penned, "This morning I was pleasantly surprised by a call from the General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost. He called to inform me that a number of Church Leaders were going to be in Parliament to present memos in support of the Bill we have laid before the House.

True to his word, they were led by the leadership of the Church of Pentecost including the Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev'd Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, the leadership of the Christian Council of Ghana, The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches amongst others together with other clergymen and women who presented over 15 memos with 15,000+ signatories.

Earlier this week, the Catholic Bishops Conference, the Assemblies of God Ghana, the Ashaiman Muslim Community and the Islamic Council of Ghana had all sent in their memos backing the Bill. I can only look forward to the stakeholders engagement and the subsequent passing of the bill into law.

However, some groups of persons from academia and other well-known angles are vehemently opposing the passing of anti-LGBTQ Bill into law. According to them, they picking the whole issue from the fundamental human rights point and the liberty of everyone to enjoy the freedom of choice. These people include professors and other academicians.
