Reports reaching the major news portals in the country is that there has been a road accident on the Techiman-Wenchi road which has claimed one life and has rendered 4 others in critical condition.
The accident involved a Benz Sprinter with registration number As 5354-20 and Opel Astra taxi cab with registration number As 224-12. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP),Kofi Oduro Amponsah told journalists that his department had a distress call that there was a road accident on the Wenchi-Techiman highway on Tuesday at about 6:00pm.
DSP Oduro Amponsah explained that upon arriving at the scene, they observed that the Benz Sprinter, which was said to be traveling from Kumasi to Wa,made a wrongful overtaking. The 4 passengers who were seriously injured were rushed to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for treatment.
DSP also said"The driver of the Benz Sprinter heading towards Wa attempted to overtake leading to a head-on collision with the Opel Astra which was heading towards Techiman from Wenchi."
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased,Francis Eleweh, aged 36 has been sent to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy. The deceased was survived by his pregnant wife and two children.
My personal take on this incident is that the Roads Authority should sensitize drivers about bad road practices.
