The current Inspector General of Police, Mr James Oppong-Boanuh is set to vacate his post on 1st August 2021 as the President of the State, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appoints Mr George Akuffo Dampare as the new IGP. Most Ghanaians are in high expectancy as they hope to see what the new IGP will bring on board in terms of reducing the rapid crime rate in the country.
For the outgoing IGP, some Ghanaians have listed some things they will remember him off during his tenure as the 22nd IGP of Ghana. Mr James Oppong-Boanuh was appointed as IGP in October 2019 after Mr David Asante-Apeatu.
Unfortunately, most comments on ongoing IGP shows that he did not do much for mother Ghana and the Ghana Police Service. It appears what most Ghanaians remembered him off is his comment that "There are crimes in every part of the world. The only place without crime is heaven".
This comment came at a time when one of his men, Constable Emmanuel Osei was shot by armed robbers and the whole country was in wailing. Some Ghanaians reacted that this comment was unfortunate and he must apologize to the family of the bereaved and the country as a whole because if he has ensured that banks were using bullion vans for money transportation and also secure bulletproof for the Police Officer he might be probably living by now.
Mr James Oppong-Boanuh might have some achievements but it appears Ghanaians have used his later commitment to fighting crimes in the country to conclude that he actually did not do much for the country.
Check out reactions from some Ghanaians below:
A Facebook user known as King Farouk created that "How will he be remembered?"
Another Facebook user known as Hamza Mohammed also reacted that "Go and spend the rest of your life in heaven because that's where there is no crime".
