EC official shot in another armed robbery attack

An official of the Electoral Commission (EC) has been shot and wounded in a robbery attack.

Wisdom Akopia, an information technology specialist of the electoral commission in Walewale, the capital of the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.

The EC official was riding home on his motorbike when he was suddenly attacked by suspected armed robbers.

Those bad guys attempted to snatch his motorbike but Akopia, would not let go his motorbike and put up fierce resistance.

The violent criminals after their failed attempt to snatch the motorbike shot Akopia in the thigh and fled.

The victim is currently on admission at the Walewale District Hospital, receiving treatment for his gunshot wound.

The Walewale police have confirmed the attack, which happened in the night of Friday, December 17, 2021, at about 10pm, and they say, they are investigating the incident.

The Northern part of the country has recently been in the news for the wrong reasons – violent criminal attacks.

It may be recalled that two police officers were gunned down on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Zuarungu, the capital of Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.

The two officers, Constable Emmanuel Akowuah, and Constable Adams Suley were on night patrols – protecting life and property, when they run into the armed robbers, who had attacked and robbed a shop owner of his cash of Ghs2,000.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has offered a Ghs¢50,000 reward for information, leading to the capture of the armed robbers.

IGP Dampare has vowed that the police would go to every length to capture and bring the killers of the two police officers to justice.

The police have since launched a special intelligence-led operation to track down and arrest the three armed robbers.

The bodies of the two slain police officers had been flown to Accra.
