The National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) of Jirapa Municipality has responded to calls for their attention by residents after they have been cut off from the Regional Capital of Upper West Region, Wa by heavy rains.
The Development has compelled most people to opt for other routes in order to get to Wa and to other parts of the South. Per NADMO in Jirapa, the institution stated through its director Alhaji Nuhu Jalilu: "Early this morning at about 10 :00am, l received information from citizens living in and around Jirapa Baazu that, part of the main road from Jirapa to Wa has been cut-off and submerged by the torrential rains which started at about 11pm the previous night.
So upon receiving the information, l quickly mobilized my team comprising myself ; Alhaji Nuhu Jalilu, (Director), Mr.Titus Ziem (Deputy Director), Mr.Robert Musah (Operations) including the assembly member for the area Hon.Evans to visit the scene.
We finally arrived at the disaster scene at exactly 11:00am. Upon our arrival, there were five police personnels already at the scene. Later at about 11:20am,we were also joined by men from the Ghana fire service (GNFS).
In fact, the entire road was completely submerged thereby preventing commuters plying the Jirapa-Wa road from crossing to their destinations. One young man from Gbare Yipiel, who taught he could still cross the road was carried away by the heavy and strong moving water wave but due to the timely intervention by the NADMO, police and fire service officials, he was rescued and taken to the St Joseph hospital in Jirapa where he is currently receiving treatment. However, at about 6pm of the 13th of August, 2021,the level of the water has since not reduce for commuters to access the road.
Meanwhile, let me add that, no life has been loss as a result of of the disaster.
Attached are pictures and video footages from the scene.".
