SHS teacher and five others arrested for cultivating cannabis popularly known as Wee.

Senior High teacher and five others have been arrested for cultivating cannabis popularly known in the Ghanaian setting as 'wee' the Kwahu Afram Plains North District by the Forestry Commission.

The suspects illegally cultivated the cannabis in Akroma forest reserve which is in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.

The arrest was taken off after tip-off on their activities was given to authorities.

After the arrest, five containers of cannabis, three other big sacks, cutlass, and a hoe among others were found with the suspects.

Michael Anakpo, a teacher of agriculture at the Donkorkrom Agric Senior High School (DASHS), is one of the suspects and is thought to be in charge of the cannabis farm.

There are currently eight more suspects on the run.

The Donkorkrom police have received the five people who were detained.

The Commission would step up monitoring efforts to halt the illegal cultivation of cannabis, according to Richard Amoateng, the district forestry manager.

Cannabis is currently not permitted to be grown for profit.

Cannabis use is only encouraged by the Narcotic Control Commission Act 2020 Act 1019 for medical and research purposes.
