The Member of Parliament for Mfanteman in the Central Region, Ophelia Hayford in preparation for the first anniversary of her late husband and a former parliamentarian for the area, Ekow Hayford, has mobilized some pastors and family to pray at the grave of the late one. Late in the dark, the pastor held to a bottle of anointing oil and invoked the holy ghost to protect the lost soul, and the family.
Mrs. Ophelia Hayford couldn’t hold herself to the memory of the late one while tunes of grief were sung to the name of the late husband. It's as though the husband had just passed. She cried her heart out as family members comforted her.
Witnesses including family members held to their flashlights from their mobile phones while the pastor performed a ritual to usher them into a new age after the death of Mr. Ekow Hayford. Today marks exactly a year when he was murdered by unknown individuals on the Abeadze-Dominase–Abeadze-Duadzi– Mankessim road while returning from a campaign trip on Thursday, October 8 2020.
His assailants attacked him around 8 pm on that unfortunate day, leaving many of his constituents and Ghanaians in shock. The entire nation was struck by grief amid the misbelief of such a gruesome murder.
He is the second parliamentarian of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to have been murdered. To date, nothing conclusive has been heard or reported about how far investigations had been conducted into his assassination.
Some fear that the case might end up as late J.B Danquah Adu’s case. In meantime, the Hayfords are busily preparing for other rites that would be performed tomorrow at the family house to honour the late Ekow Hayford.
With the prayers and other rituals performed for his departed soul, the wife and the children together with the external family are convinced the late MP is having a peaceful rest. As with the Akan tradition, they believe the soul of the departed lives among the living and maybe reincarnated.
