#FixTheCountry: Fix The Abandoned CHPS Compound In Upper West Akim (Atimatim) – Samuel Bossman To Govt

Samuel Bossman who is a Former President of the School of Public Service and Governance - GIMPA and a member of the Right Agenda Network has in a write up has called on government to fix a broken down and abandoned CHPS compound in the west Akim.

Here is what Samuel Bossman has to say in his write up ........

My humble appeal to government this time is to complete the abandoned Community-based Health and Planning Service (CHPS) compound, located at Atimatim in the Upper West Akim Constituency, to promote the quality of healthcare delivery in the area.

It is sad to note that, the people of Atimatim have been complaining bitterly for the past 5 years about the abandoned CHPS compound which was commenced in the era of John Dramani Mahama.

As we speak, the project is in a rubbishy state and demands urgent attention in order not for public resources to be wasted and also to administer health service to the people in the village. It is 40 per cent complete and all efforts to get the assembly to complete it for the community proved futile. Nurses and other health professionals are sad about the unfortunate political hands involved in this project which was started by the previous government(NDC) in the community.

The only manageable health facility available in the Upper West Akim is the Adeiso Health Center which even lacks logistics, emergency kits, hospital beds and medications to cater for the patients. It was appalling to see pregnant women at Atimatim and other villages in the maternity delivering in an impoverished facility that makes some to deliver at home.

Another problem is the lack of accommodation for health workers who are especially transferred to the community. Life has become very difficult for our health officers in such situations in all the villages in the Constituency.

The people of Upper West Akim had done a lot to keep the attention of the District Assembly drawn to this CHPS compound, but no funding and support from the Assembly’s Common Funds has been made available to complete the abandoned CHPS compound".

Also, the road leading to the community ( Atimatim) is in a deplorable state and makes transportation very difficult for people who encounter emergency health conditions. People in bad health conditions would have to travel from these far villages to the main town to seek health care. In most instances, other patient loses their lives in the process. Last year, the president promised to build 88hospitals in 1 year of which Upper West Akim was part. Sadly, it was just a campaign lie to decieve the people Ghana.

The community also lacks potable water and depends on wells and streams to have access to potable water.

We (The Youth) plead with the District Assembly and Government as a whole to complete the CHPS compound at Atimatim, provide health workers bungalows as well as boreholes in the community to end the pain they go through as Government workers and constituents.
