Several hours of downpour leaves parts of Sekondi-Takoradi flooded

Following a downpour on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021, certain areas of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis flooded.

The Takoradi to Western-North main route's Apowa St Mary's -Sky Limit road was clogged with vehicular traffic after a five-hour downpour.

Many commuters were stuck in traffic for several hours. Because they were unable to drive through the flood, some people left their cars in the water.

Others drove cautiously through the flood that had flooded the majority of the road in front of Saint Mary's Senior High School.

The commuters and locals at the Apowa area blamed their inability to ply the road during a downpour, on the government’s inability to rehabilitate segments of the road that have deteriorated.

They claimed that this has been a normal ritual that happens everytime there is a downpour, they also accused the contractor who erected the culvert and drainage in the region.

The Market Circle, Beach Road, Shippers Council, Melcom Road, Asempa Hotel, and its environs were among the areas of the Regional capital that were flooded.

Drivers within the city had to use unfamiliar roots to get to their location due to impenetrable roads caused by the rains.

It is believed that millions of properties have been destroyed by the rain as the citizens of Sekondi-Takoradi look up to the ‘mercies of the weather’ to spare them the havoc.
