Road Accident

A Prime Cause of Accidents on High Ways

The rampant accidents on our major roads of late could undoubtedly be attributed to careless driving and misconducts of some drivers, the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service has said.

Speaking to in an interview, ASP JULIANA FORSON the Western North Regional MTTD Commander argued that overloading, overspeeding, unnecessary overtaking, wrongful parking among others are core causes of most road carnages which directly affect all road users.

In furtherance, she urged drivers to check their vehicle and be convinced that everything is intact before moving it and should also be focused when driving adding that huge percentage of vehicle operators don't know the meanings of road safety indicators.

"We are ruthlessly giving education on road safety but things are escalating and accidents becoming rampant so our outfit is putting measures in place to check overspeeding and as well dispatch or deploy police personnel to accident prone areas to curb it".

ASP Juliana Forson advised drivers to in toto shun the habit of overloading and abide by road safety regulations and entreated passengers to also put a stop to intimidating drivers to speed up when traveling.
